Upside Down Rogaine

Another solid weekendo f training under the belt in preparation for Godzone, which is now only two months away. Kicked things off with a 15km paddle on Saturday morning. Craig, Deb and I were then joined by Glenn Seaby on a 4-5 hour MTB ride out to Mt Nebo via Augies Rd on Saturday evening. We then backed straight up with the 8 hour upside down rogaine which was held in our back yard at Brisbane Forest Park.

Luke Goodfellow set an excellent course for the rogaine. Eventual winners team Mountain Designs failed to sweep the course, leaving some tricky route decisions for most optimal points on the cards. Although heading to the Mt Cootha trails almost weekly for training runs and rides, I discovered a whole buch of tracks that I never new existed at this event. For our part, we had a solid race and acheived what we set out to do, which was to get 8 hours of trekking into the legs after a big day of training. It had been a while since I”ve raced, so it was nice to get the nav practice in, missing only one of our intended CPs after cutting our loses in a moment of “lanta frustration”. Despite promises to ourselves to only “hike” the rogaine, we found ourselves finshing strongly and running much of the last two hours. Thanks to all involved in the preparation and organisation of a great night out. A turn out of almost 200 competitors is an excellent reflection on the growth of the sport.
