So as the summer months draw closer, the days heat up and the racing winds down for the year, it’s time to take stock and look back at the race results for the past twelve months. 2012 has been a breakthrough year for the Rogue team. The squad managed to field multiple teams in a number of races with top results, often standing on the podium in very large and competitive fields.
Highlights from racing this year include both Rogue teams cracking the top 10 at GeoQuest, including the squads first ever top 5 placing. This year’s GeoQuest would go down as one of the toughest courses in the race’s 11 year history, with only 6 teams making it through the full course.
Other highlights include a number of outright podium wins, including the MDARA sprint and iAdventure Sprint races, as well as taking out both the 8hr and 12hr rogaine championships. Placing 2nd overall in a field of 230 teams at the Kathmandu sprint AR back in March was also a memorable achievement. A tip of the hat must be given to Team Mountain Designs who were regularly our main competition on the local scene throughout the year. We look forward to racing toe-to-toe again in 2013.
Finally, the 12hr and 6hr Rogue Adventuregaine at Mt Joyce in April saw a record breaking field in 2012 with almost 200 competitors lining up for the challenge. High quality maps, a misty lake traverse, single-track mountain biking and off trail trekking in an all new AR event location made for a massively successful race despite what could only be described as appalling weather on the day. Rogue Adventure were also fortunate to welcome a number of sponsors for both the team and the adventuregaine, including Samurai Sportswear, Macpac, ARea51 and Ferno. The excellent uniforms provided by Samurai Sportswear for the team are also of particular note.
Moving forward, it looks like 2013 is set to be even bigger and better. There has been an explosion of new races on the calendar to choose from with something tasty being offered up almost every weekend. The unofficial Rogue squad numbers have grown to the point where we can hopefully field at least one team at all of these races. Highlights in the first half of the year to look forward to include a return to the Godzone 6 day expedition race in NZ with an all new team line up. Individual team members also have a number of solo missions lined up, including the 64km “rooftop run” from Bogong to Hotham straight off the bat in January. Planning for the Rogue adventuregaine is well underway, with the race returning to its original 24hr format and the Imbil / Borumba Dam area offering up one of the most scenic courses yet.
All told, a very successful year with an even better one to come. A summary of results can be found below.
